✍️ Hello everyone. Today I will tell about another tradition in northern Thailand, namely the tradition of the presentation of food to priests by lots (salakphat). In Thai, it is written and read as "ฉลากภัต". If the local dialect of northern Thailand is written and read as "ทานก๋วยสลาก".
Generally, this tradition is held around the 6th to the 8th month according to the Thai calendar or around September to November. because it is the fruitful season. The agricultural products of the villagers were plentiful during this period. and the villagers have free time from farming already.
Villagers prepare to put things in their baskets, such as food, fruit, flowers, snacks or other groceries. To be presented to the monks at the temple on the day of the traditional festival tomorrow. When the next day of the tradition and the rituals are completed, the monks in the temple will draw lots for the baskets prepared by the villagers to offer. when the monks draw lots and get which basket The monks will receive and use the items in that basket. In addition, on the day of the tradition of the presentation of food to priests by lots (salakphat), there are other merit-making too.
