Hello Hivers!
I had a mishap in posting this content and because I was drafting it here directly, I erroneously pushed the Post button. At any rate, here is the content. Sorry for the inconvenience!
It was a shocking day today when I received our electrical bill for the period covering Nov.21 - Dec.21, 2021 stating that we were billed with 254.55 Euros ( consumption just for 1 month). And that the consumption had been almost 800 watts.(!!!)
High Energy Cost
We live here for about 25 years now and never in my life we have such cost of consumption. I can´t believe it either that we have consumed almost 800 watts.
We used 400 watts the previous month prior to this bill and there were no changes with our behaviour. We did the routine works at home with all the electric home appliances for our daily living... this jump of the watt consumption is way too high... It is even more expensive that our monthly bill in our homebase in Vienna.
Our Spanish provider EnergiaXX21 sent us a mail early January telling that electricity will be expensive due to the high price of gas and some other factors such as transports. etc. Maybe the best soluion is to look for another provider and really we will probably search for another electric company when we come back here in Andalusia next time .... we will be leaving for home base soon, so there is no point complaining about the bill, it had been remitted anyway so it´s fully paid.
Other Heating Alternatives...
We have many options to heat the house such as we have built a fireplace, a wood burner, installed a convertible heater / air conditioner, all the rooms have the mobile electric heater and a heater with butane gas.
Our most used mechanism to combat the cold is the downstairs wood burner. It is very compact and easily used as well as cleaned in no time. It heats almost all of the walls of the rooms downstairs. We used olive woods for the fire that we get from a friend´s garden center and they deliver it directly to our house.
One cubic meter of olive woods costs around 65 Euros including transport and we store them in the garage and prepare them in boxes ready to take into the house anytime. Just the other day, the order of olive woods had been delivered. They will be reserved for the next Fall when we return here in Andalusia.
We stay downstairs most of the time during the day, so the most used heater is the wood burner. We only used the fireplace upstairs when we have guests... It is bigger and can accommodate big woods... But we avoid using the fireplace simply because it´s tedious to clean as well as the woods needed to be brought upstairs and the ashes down to be disposed. We used the upstairs living room more for entertaining in the evening like watch/stream movies.
So if I you ask me, the best heater is the wood burner, very compact but gives the best heat and does not comsume electric energy.
