The Rossschwemme
In the new world....it is an area of recreation in the Alte Donau (Old Danube) in the 21st District where people could enjoy sunbathing, sail with their small boat, go pedal boating, take a swim and many other activities. People can also go with their dogs for a walk here. Dogs are prohibited to take a swim as there are areas parallel to the Old Danube where dogs could do so much fun... and that is in the Donau Insel which is a man-made island between the big Danube and the Alte Donau. In short, there are three bodies of water here are follows : The Alte Donau , Donau Insel and the Danube River
The Donau Insel was created in the 70s and thousands of truckloads of earth, stones, gravel and sands were moved to create the Island. It has been a huge success because the locals and tourists alike enjoy this huge recreational area particularly in Summer celebrating events, feasts and open air concerts. The real and big Danube River is parallel to the Donau Insel and this is where bigger cruise ships sail, refer to below images.
The Rossschwemme in the old days used to be an area where the locals bring their horses for a bath, this must have been used as such in those days centuries ago. Nowadays, a fleet of aquatic weed harvesters (mowing boats) do the clearing of the water from weeds, dirt, algae and leaves.
