What's Up Hivers! How are you all doing? It's good to be back.
Today I am going to show you my ampalaya plant journey.
As I have mentioned in my previous blogs, I have a very small garden and I've got a few plants too. One day, while my husband and I were enjoying our breakfast, we had a talk about the benefits we get from bitter gourd, or so-called ampalaya here in the Philippines. According to what I have researched, they are as follows:
Health Benefits
- As a rich source of antioxidants, flavonoids, and other polyphenol compounds (these compounds are known for their ability to lower inflammation in the body).
- Bitter gourd contains bioactive compounds called saponins and terpenoids. These compounds are responsible for the vegetable’s bitter taste, but may also play a role in lowering blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. The saponins and terpenoids in bitter gourd may help move glucose from the blood to the cells while also helping your liver and muscles better process and store glucose. Bitter gourd
We then decided to plant ampalaya (bitter gourd). I bought one bitter gourd at the market, removed the seeds, and dried it for several days. After that we started to plant the seeds in the pot.
We got healthy soil and we used it for our ampalaya plant.
Here you can see the plant is slowly splitting the seed coats, growing and producing leaves.
Charan! There's a young plant there that you should say hello to! We've never gone a day without watering our plant, and I chat to it frequently. They claim that this helps in the growth of our plants, hahaha.
Days later, after we had transferred our bitter gourd so that it could grow more, we noticed that our plant had produced a flower and another flower, which excited me.
It was early morning when I checked our plant and saw this. I was really happy to see it slowly fruiting. I can't wait to see it grow bigger.
And there, it finally grew bigger, we waited for some more days until it's good to be harvested.
Yay! on the day of harvesting our bitter gourd. I told my husband that I should be the first one to get the first fruit, and gladly he agreed.
We got four fruits from our first ever ampalaya plant. It's amazing the more I think about it. We were just casually thinking of planting one and now we have just finished harvesting its fruits. I am excited to use this for our meal that came from our mini garden and not from the market.
Do you have your own plant journey too? Comment down below. That's all for this blog. Thank you for sparing your time to visit my blog. Adieu!
