Hello everyone! During school holidays, we took the kids to a night market in the evenings. This night market is quite far from where we're staying, about an hour and a half drive. It was drizzling the whole way, but we had a backup plan: if it was still raining when we got to the market, we'd find a small stall and grab something delicious to eat. But the atmosphere was perfect! When we arrived, the rain stopped – it might have been because the ground was wet before. Once we got there, we walked into the market, which is very long with three rows of stalls.
The restaurant we were interested in was a Thai restaurant, 100% run by Thai people. They have pork leg rice, papaya salad, mango sticky rice, and many other dishes. The prices, as you might expect for a restaurant in a rural area, are naturally higher. Inside, there are tables where you can comfortably sit and eat while sheltering from the rain.
This stall sells candied fruit, also known as Tanghulu, a popular Thai dessert. Fresh fruit is skewered on a stick and coated in a clear sugar syrup. When you bite into it, you get a delicious combination of sweet sugar and the slightly sour fruit. I've seen it in Chinese movies, and it made me want to try it. But when I saw it up close, the price was quite high! I decided to get a small stick to satisfy my craving.
There are many clothing stores here, selling everything from activewear and lingerie to stylish casual wear. We weren't really looking to browse, just walking past and noticing the nice clothes. If it were before, I would have run straight into a clothing store. Now that we're older, clothes aren't as essential as they used to be; we just think of them as things to cover our bodies.
This stall sells coconut and flour sweets that are being grilled and then cut into bite-sized pieces. The fragrant aroma wafted from afar, making me stop and watch the vendor make them. I wanted to buy some, but knew it would take a long time to cook, so I didn't wait. I just watched and left, planning to come back later, but it was still quite a distance away because the stall was very large.
My two daughters were so happy and didn't forget to buy some delicious treats to take home, especially fresh fruit and yogurt – their absolute favorites. They walked around the market twice before finally stopping to buy some for them. This is one of our little joys from strolling through the night market, which was so much fun, but also tiring on the way home. After an hour-long ride, the kids fell asleep in the car. When we got home, we woke them up, gave them a bath, got them dressed, and put them to bed. That's my little story for today. Thank you for reading!
