LHOKSUKON – A number of schools and teachers in North Aceh District received awards and souvenirs at the commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas). The award was handed over by Acting North Aceh Regent Azwardi accompanied by Regional Secretary A. Murtala, Head of the Education and Culture Office Jamaluddin, and Head of the Aceh Education Office Branch in North Aceh District Ahmad Yamani, after a ceremony at the Landing Field of Lhoksukon District, Tuesday, May 2 2023.
Schools received selected awards from various categories and were judged to have excelled in a number of competency areas. Namely, SMA Negeri 1 Muara Batu is an Adiwiyata school at the Aceh Province level in 2022, SMA Negeri 1 Matangkuli is the first driving school in North Aceh for the high school level, SMK Negeri 1 Nisam (category of the first vocational center of excellence in North Aceh), SMK Negeri 1 Sawang (SMK is able to significantly increase the beauty of schools in 2022).
Furthermore, SMA Negeri 4 Tanah Jambo Aye in the SMA category was able to significantly increase the beauty of the school in 2022, SMA Negeri 1 Cot Girek (a school that has successfully implemented an intensive recitation program), SMA Negeri 1 Dewantara (school with the highest number of SNBP graduations in 2023 in North Aceh), SMK Negeri 1 Tanah Jambo Aye (the school has held industrial classes in 2023).

Meanwhile, for the Elementary School (SD) level, the schools that received the award were SD Negeri 3 Meurah Mulia, which is an environmentally conscious school as well as a pioneer of ecoprinting as an effort to reduce environmental and ecosystem damage due to textile waste. SD Negeri 1 Syamtalira Bayu was chosen to receive the award because it was considered a successful school in running an intensive recitation program.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Sawang 25 Public Elementary School, Azhari, S.Pd., received an award as Principal with dedication and innovation in developing a school which is at the farthest distance of North Aceh District. Principal of SD Negeri 13 Steps Muhammad Yusuf, S.Pd, as Principal with innovation and full dedication in developing schools and providing assistance to students in the easternmost sub-district of North Aceh Regency.
The award was also given to Anita, S.Pd., the head of the driving school and resource person for various practices, including those held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.
Acting Regent Azwardi also gave awards to six teachers who were considered great teachers who had graduated to become National Facilitators organized by the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel. Namely, Syukri, S.Pd., M.Pd., Nurdiah, S.Pd.IP., Faisal, S.Pd., M.Pd., Muhammad Nasir, S.Pd., Tabliq Diniati, S.Pd. , M.Pd., and Rizki Rahmawati, S.Pd.
In addition to giving awards and souvenirs to schools and teachers, the 2023 National Education Day commemoration event at the North Aceh Regency Government was also marked by a flag ceremony at the Landing Field in Lhoksukon District. "The 24 episodes of Merdeka Learning that have been launched have brought us closer to Ki Hadjar Dewantara's lofty ideals, namely education that guides the talents, interests and potential of students," he said.
“Our children can now study more calmly because their learning activities are assessed more holistically by their own teachers. Principals and regional heads who used to have difficulty monitoring the quality of their education can now use National Assessment data in the Education Report Card Platform to improve the quality of education services," he said.
Teachers are now competing to share and create with the presence of the Merdeka Mengajar platform. In addition, teachers who were previously bound by various rigid regulations are now more free to innovate in class with the presence of the Independent Curriculum. In line with the Merdeka Curriculum which emphasizes in-depth learning to develop character and competence, the selection for admission to State Universities now focuses on measuring literacy and reasoning abilities.
At the higher education level, students who used to only study theory in class can now travel the world in search of knowledge and experience outside the campus with the presence of the Independent Campus programs. In terms of funding, the direct disbursement of School Operational Assistance (BOS) and Educational Operational Assistance (BOP) funds to schools and their more flexible use has given schools latitude to improve the quality of learning.
“With the expansion of the scholarship program, the opportunity to continue their education to tertiary level is now much more open. Funding support for research activities has also given birth to so many innovations that originate from collaboration. In addition, a flexible mechanism can accommodate the creative ideas of artists and cultural actors so that they are able to produce great works that support the advancement of culture. This massive transformation should be celebrated with gratitude and splendor, because everything is the result of our hard work and cooperation," said Azwardi.
Azwardi said that this year's National Education Day is the right time to reflect on every challenge that has been faced, as well as every inch of the bold step that has been taken. By reflecting on the things that have been done over the last three years.
