My autistic son Jonathan has been going to the Educational And Resource Centre which is managed by the Kuching Autistic Association for the past 20 years. The Centre has been a lifeline for those with autism and their families. The Association also operates the Autism Art Gallery where those with autism can showcase their talents and artwork. In addition, the gardening project run by the Association provides an opportunity for students to grow vegetables and plants for sale. My son Jonathan and others like him have benefitted so much from the activities and programs of the Association. His quality of life has improved and his future is brighter because of the Associaton.
Last month, the Association organized an outing to the Dino Exhibition located at the compound of Aeroville Mall, Kuching. About 40 autistic students with their families had a great time wandering and admiring the dinosaur exhibits. The students were fascinated with the huge dinosaurs, and their smiles and excitement were a joy for me to see.
It is not easy to manage a large group of autistic students and so besides the family members, some volunteers also came to help. I am so happy that these autistic students are able to participate in activities meant for the whole community. The presence of a large group of autistic students will also help to raise awareness about autism.
The students were so excited to see the dinosaurs.
My son Jonathan posing with a dinosaur. I must admit that my attention was more on him than the dinosaur and so I did not manage to get the name of the dinosaur.
Jonathan showed some interest in the exhibits and was well behaved throughout the field trip.
I can sense some discomfort In Jonathan but he managed to put on a brave front.
My daughter Victoria enjoyed the trip very much and she help to look after Jonathan.
The students and their families had a great time at Dino Land. I hope that the Association can organize more field trips in the future. I would like to say a big thank you to the Association for this great experience.

Wednesday Walk And Make Me Smile
As I am still recovering from my slipped disc, walking and swimming are my major forms of exercise. I am glad to stumble upon the Wednesday Walk community. The Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by to encourage people to go for walks, take some photos and write about it. Now I can combine my two hobbies; walking and writing.
The Make Me Smile challenge is created by and you can post almost anything that puts a smile on others or yourself.
A big thank you to and
for this collaboration.
