I need to have a happy weekend to recharge my energy and have a blast for the next weekdays.
How do I spend this day?
❤️ Strolling around the Market
Why do I love to go around in the market?
When I was a child my mother used to bring me to the market. She was a fish vendor back then when she was still alive. I could imagine our life before was not easy then, we had to work hard to provide for our daily needs. So what my mother did was, she stays in the market most of the day to sell fish. She goes there every day, early around 3 in the morning, and comes home at 5 in the afternoon. There was a time when I was still in school I needed to buy a P.E t-shirt but because we didn't have money, she made me work at a dry goods store beside the market where she knew the owner. Our lives before depend on what comes from the market.
The market is 1.9 km away from my home place or 6 minutes to ride. You’ll see many things if you go to the market because it’s a place where two parties usually buyers and sellers can gather to facilitate the exchange of goods and services. Many eatables we can see and available in the market.
💚Fish Section
In this section, You’ll see different fresh fishes and sea shells. Other people used to buy early in the morning because aside from the freshness of the fish, the market is still not crowded.
This is Bangus (Milkfish) the national Fish of the Philippines. It can be cooked in many ways like Milkfish in soy-lemon, Fish Steak, and Fried Milkfish, and the easier way of cooking this one and still yummy is through Grilled or might be called Inihaw na Bangus. Super Yummy!!! and if you’re gonna eat grilled bangus, you might forget your name (just kidding) 😊
We locally called this fish “Tamarong“ (Bisaya term). This can be cooked in fried, grilled, and paksiw (to cook and simmer in vinegar), and many more. This kind of fish is so abundant in our place and this is what our fishermen usually caught. More fishes displayed and sold on the market.
There were also sea shells displayed in the market mostly still moving and alive meaning fresh from the sea.
This was Mussel or Tahong in Filipino terms. Fresh mussels are cooked in ginger broth and with lemon grass. I like to prepare this as a dish because it is simple and easy to cook. It is also inexpensive and the taste is delicious and yummy.
💚Next, I will tour you to the “ Meat Section “
Fresh meats were already displayed in the stall early in the morning. The pork, beef, and chicken meat. What dish should I cook? Hmmm. I am thinking of Pork Adobo, Beef Steak, or a Chicken Curry. I think this will ruin my diet.
Besides the chicken display, here come the yummy frozen products. These were the dish that was easy to cook. Whenever you are running out of time to cook frozen products will be helpful but if I still have time, it’s nice to prepare veggies because it’s good for your health.
💚The next will be the “Dried Fish Section “
Whenever you don’t eat meat coz you’re on diet, try this dried fish. Different dried fishes were available. You can choose either small, medium, or large fish. You can have fried dried fish as your dish but if you like you can have also dried fish recipes like dried fish with tomatoes (Kinamatisang Buwad) and you will add more rice. Still, the diet is ruined.
💚Let’s go to the “ Fruits and Vegetables Section "
Many fruits and vegetables were displayed fruits like Apples, Bananas, Oranges, Grapes, Watermelon, Mangoes, and many more. Vegetables also such as Cabbage, Pechay, Carrots, Squash, Eggplants, Potatoes, and many more. What should I prepare later? I’m so excited 🥰.
There were also pots being displayed beside the market with amazing designs. You may use this for indoor and outdoor displays.
There were also lemon seedlings that are ready to plant. All you have to do then is to transfer this to a permanent and nice place and this will grow beautifully. They were dwarf lemon seedlings, which you can plant beside your garden and these are ready to bear fruits.
Beside the market was the small stall that sell dry goods and other consumable products. Products that we use every day like soaps, coffee, milk, shampoos, and many more.
I’m so excited about what to prepare and cook for a meal. I am so happy every time I go around the market. In my next blog, I’m gonna share with you what are the foods or dishes I prepared.
