The first in Southeast Asia to intoduce a comprehensive framework for AI.
What is happening?
Vietnam passed an AI law in December 2025 that took effect on March 1.
It requires developers, providers, and deployers to clearly label AI-generated content and to disclose when costumers interact with an artificial agent.
The law applies to Vietnamese organizations and foreign entities operating in Vietnam.
Why it matters
Only a handful of countries have roller out broad AI regulations. In January, South Korea became the first to have AI law take full effect, while the European Union is phasing in rules that will fully apply in 2027.
While Vietnam's law is a regulatory milestone, analyst said its impact would depend on how the government enforces it and on what guidance it issues on implementation.
