What is Cha Kuey? It is a golden crispy oil-fried pastry made from ingredients of flour, water, salt and egg. I usually ordered Cha Kuey Kahwin with margarine and coconut jam from Uncle Cha Kuey. Uncle Cha Kuey's stall is located nearby my workplace where I had worked there for more than 7 years. The stall opened its business from 10 am to 2 pm or maybe close earlier if the stock for sales sold out.
We are regular customers of Uncle Cha Kuey's stall. He always gives regards to one of us (
Now, Uncle Cha Kuey's age is 80+ years old. Got two times the same stall selling the same Cha Kuey has been managed by other persons before. We thought Uncle Cha Kuey successfully found a successor to manage his business, but not. Uncle Cha Kuey's back to business again to manage his business. Uncle Cha Kuey's said that 2 groups of people before giving up managing his business. Not sure what is the reason of it.
We asked Uncle Cha Kuey why he did not want to retire and rest at home in his old age. Uncle Cha Kuey replied to us that his children also asked him to retire too. However, he prefers work and managing his business which none of his children want to be the successor of it.

Cooking, making, selling and serving. All the works are managed by Uncle Cha Kuey only currently. A few years ago, he got a friend, maybe almost the same age as Uncle Cha Kuey, voluntarily as Uncle Cha Kuey business's helper for free or without pay. Not sure of the whereabouts of his friend now. I also don't dare to ask about the detail.
I hope Uncle Cha Kuey's stall can be operated forever with the quality of Cha Kuey being maintained well. The Cha Kuey made by Uncle Cha Kuey is really delicious and the Cha Kuey is still in fluffy texture after half a day cooked. This doesn't mean I wish Uncle Cha Kuey to work forever, but I wish his Cha Kuey stall will get a successor to inherit the business in the future,
