Music has always been a part of my life and I can't remember a day when I didn't listen to music. Well, I'm not that musically inclined, but I do enjoy singing and listening to a variety of genres. I believe having both of my parents who are into music also played a huge part.
For this week's ASEAN Hive Community Challenge, we are tasked to share the Soundtrack of My Life.
Allow me to show you my playlist. :)
Please Be Careful With My Heart
by: Jose Mari Chan and Regine Velasquez
I started with this because it is my parents' song for each other. It's because they met that I exist. haha I also really love this song. My father used to sing Jose Mari Chan's songs for me to sleep.
Don't Say You Love Me
by: M2M
When I was around third grade, I was a huge fan of M2M... One reason for this was this song. It was one of the theme songs for the first Pokemon movie... and yes, I've been an anime fan for a long time! haha (I also like Billy Crawford's version of the Pokemon theme song movie version).
Sk8er Boi
by: Avril Lavigne
I found my first crush when I was in 6th grade. haha He was an 8th grader in the international school I went to. He was American and yes... he was a Sk8er Boi! hahaha
We were actually quite close (he jokingly introduced me as his "boyfriend" to his friends) and his older sister became my English teacher at university. I saw him again as an adult, but the butterflies were long gone. I don't know what he's up to now, but I know their family went back to the US years ago. hahaha
Officially Missing You
by: Tamia
When I was a 2nd-year student in my first high school (in the countryside), I had a best friend named John. We used to go home together with my cousins who also went to the same school. We mostly bonded through music and this was one of our favorites.
He was someone I could rely on and tell my secrets to. He did the same. My mom allowed me to stay out late during the town's fiesta as long as I was with John. Unfortunately, he transferred in our third year since his family decided to go back to their hometown. I actually transferred back to the city in the middle of third year, too. haha
Welcome to My Life
*by: Simple Plan
During the rest of high school and early university days, this was my song. haha Typical teenager? Maybe... but really, this song just punches you straight to your guts. I remember when I was so stressed with life, I'd play this in full volume and just sing my heart out... same with "Untitled by the same artist".
星をめざして (Hoshi wo Mezashite)
by: NEWS
When I was in my darkest days, this group saved me. This is just one of their songs, but the group itself was so special to me. They're a J-pop group called NEWS. There are only 3 members left now, though... but I still love them and support the other members who went solo.
A part of Hoshi wo Mezashite's lyrics translates to:
Is everyone here?
Aiming for the stars, led by you
Singing, I start to walk
I won't look back
On my wounded youth
I know I lost my way
All alone in the deep darkness, I cried
When I woke up, you were there in the light
And I was reborn
This is literally me and them. haha After my surgery, I couldn't go to university... I felt like I was alone. My friends continued on their journey while I remained in our house doing nothing. (I was recovering... xD) However, when I got to know this group, I felt alive again! :) I also love their song called "Full Swing". Unfortunately, they don't have a music video for that.
IKAKO
by: SB19
Now, I love listening to SB19 the most. Just like NEWS, they're an inspiration to me. This particular song was made by SB19 amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, the message of the song applies to anyone anytime and anywhere.
Listening to this song makes me feel hopeful... there will always be challenges in life, but through this song, I'm reminded that I'm not alone. I have my friends and most especially my family with me.
Of course, it's already a given that I'll be there for them. IKAKO is short for IKAW at AKO which means YOU and ME in English.
This group has a lot of amazing and heartwarming songs... aside from Ikako, I love listening to MAPA (a song for our parents), ILAW (a cry for help and a very touching song) and KALAKAL (a song about just being you and not minding the people who are trying to bring you down).

OK... This one's a bonus track on my playlist! haha
They're releasing a new EP sometime this year, so it's highly likely for me to update my life's playlist soon. Yes, this is me promoting them again because the world deserves to know them and listen to their music. ;)
Thanks for reading my post! See you around! (^^,)/
