Hey friends... :)
I'm happy to participate this time as I haven't joined the previous challenge. The topic for ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #85 is Origami.
Origami is the Japanese art of paper-folding. Though I'm a huge fan of Japanese culture, I'm not really that passionate about this craft. Sure there are simple ones that we can easily follow, there are other high-level origami that I can't even imagine doing. haha Well, if I want to relax and practice my dexterity, I can try making some.
I have two stories related to origami that I want to share to you. Let's start with the first one.
Several years ago, one of my former Japanese students came back to the Philippines to visit. She knows how interested I am with their culture, so she gave me this book as a souvenir. It's an origami book with a lot of origami paper.
The book is very informative as it teaches us the basic and usual types of folds used in origami. There are also some patterns that we could follow to create some common stuff we could either use or play with.
The book she gave me also came with some beautiful chiyogami (Japanese paper) for origami. The prints in each paper is so pretty and symbolic.
The tutorial pages of the book are very easy to understand and follow as it contains not only a step-by-step instruction, but also some illustrations.
Since I opened this page related to shuriken, I decided to make some...
It's been ages since I made origami... but I like shuriken since I could actually play with them. haha I chose these autumn and spring patterns.
I won't be showing the step-by-step procedure for this as they're already in the page I showed earlier. Aren't they pretty? Pretty dangerous!!! Let's test them out!
O to the M to the G!!!
They actually worked!!!
Just kidding! hahahahaha
When my Japanese friend came here and gave me the book, we decided to make some origami together. She was with another friend, so the three of us did a bit of origami workshop. My friend was so strict!!! hahaha I and her friend was a bit stressed-out, but it was an interesting experience.
We basically just helped in folding the papers needed and my friend (former student) made the final assembling of these origami. I don't know how to make these, though... but I kept them. <3 And that was my experience with Japanese origami.
Now, onto the next story!!!!
I'm a 90s baby and when I was in elementary, we didn't have smartphones yet. Most of us play outside or do something creative at school to kill our boredom. And one of the things we made is kind of similar to origami, but it's more of a paper fortune telling. Well, let me explain...
It looks like this... first, you choose a color. If the person chose red, you're going to open the paper upward and sideways three times R-E-D...
Then, some numbers would be revealed... you're going to let the person choose a number and do what you did earlier depending on the number chosen. In our case before, we let the person choose a number twice... and after the second choice, we reveal whatever is inside the paper. For example, the person chose one, we're going to open one.
In this case, one is "Say Hi! to your crush...", so the person who chose it would do the dare. In some cases, people write questions... or just any random things. As for use, we used to write either dares or names of anime characters and we'll act as them afterwards.
Below is how the paper look like when it's open. I'll show you how it's fold.
Fold this way first. You can write the dare or whatever after folding...
Turn the paper around and fold again...
Fold it inward... then...
... like this. I don't know how to explain this. haha
This is where you insert your fingers to make it move open upward and sideways...
And here's the top view!!! :)
It was quite a simple thing, but I remember enjoying it with my friends back then. And that's how some Filipino kids in the 90s killed their boredom.
That's it for my entry. I hope you enjoyed my stories. See you around! (^^,)/
