Good morning to all the #hivers who love medicinal and culinary herbs. Today I want to talk to you a little about how to sow and cultivate an herb that is frequently used in our meals, chives.
Muy buenos días a todos los #hivers amantes de las hierbas medicinales y culinarias. Hoy les quiero hablar un poco de la forma de sembrar y cultivar una hierba que se usa frecuentemente en nuestras comidas, el cebollín.
The chive, also known in some countries as chives or chives, is a plant or herb that we use very frequently in our daily cooking recipes, there is no stew, sancocho or soup, stew, or dressing where the chive is not present for its such a particular flavor in foods that it resembles a mixture between onion and garlic. It has a very strong smell and sometimes it even burns the eyes when we are biting it, but the taste it gives to the dishes is wonderful.
El cebollín también conocido en algunos países como cebollino o ciboulette, es una planta o hierba que utilizamos con mucha frecuencia en nuestras recetas de cocina cotidianas, no hay un guiso, sancocho o sopa, estofado, o aderezo donde el cebollín no esté presente por su sabor tan particular en las comidas que semeja una mezcla entre cebolla y ajo. Tiene un olor muy fuerte y a veces hasta genera ardor en los ojos cuando lo estamos picando, pero el gusto que le da a los platillos es maravilloso.

Precisely because of the frequent use that it has in my meals, which is almost daily, I saw the need to cultivate it to save a little on its cost but not on its consumption, that way I always have both parts available, from which I buy and of the one I grow… also considering that the one of my harvest deteriorates if I remove its twigs so often, so I alternate between the two.
Precisamente por el uso frecuente que tiene en mis comidas que casi es a diario, me vi en la necesidad de cultivarlo para ahorrar un poco en su costo más no en su consumo, de esa manera tengo siempre disponible de ambas partes, del que compro y del que cultivo… considerando también que el de mi cosecha se deteriora si le quito tan seguido sus ramitas, así que alterno entre ambos.
First I want to talk to you about your way of sowing and cultivation, which I did not know until I started doing this activity. From each purchase I make, I extract the bulbs with their roots, leaving about 6 cm of the stem to be able to plant it comfortably.
Primero les quiero hablar de su forma de siembra y cultivo, la cual no conocía hasta que comencé a realizar esta actividad. De cada compra que hago yo extraigo los bulbos con sus raíces dejando más o menos 6 cm del tallo para poder sembrarlo con comodidad.

Before planting I prepare my compost bin with fertilizer, black earth, and waste material suitable for crops. Then I place the stems with their roots in small glasses of water for a couple of days until they germinate and sprout more roots and the stem grows a little more.
Antes de la siembra preparo mi compostero con abono, tierra negra, y material de desecho apto para cultivos. Luego coloco por un par de días los tallitos con su raíz en vasitos con agua hasta lograr que germinen y broten más raíces y crezca un poco más el tallo.

Then I remove the stems from the water and plant them in the ground or in a pot with their perforations for drainage. The soil must be moist and well fertilized, the plant must be in a high temperature approximately up to 35°, and have a lot of light.
Acto seguido retiro los tallos del agua y los siembro en el suelo o en una maceta con sus perforaciones para el drenaje. El suelo debe estar húmedo y bien abonado, la planta debe estar en alta temperatura aproximadamente hasta los 35°, y tener mucha luminosidad.

In a short time you will see a beautiful flower sprout from some twigs and when the flower dries, it will release its seeds from it which will become new chive plants later on.
Al poco tiempo verán brotar una hermosa flor de algunas ramitas y al secar la flor, soltará sus semillas de ella las que se convertirán en nuevas plantas de cebollín más adelante.
