A castle full of frozen fun!
For those that read my posts, you would have seen that a while ago I started buying some Lego for my niece and building it with her. It's been such a blast seeing the little Lego Friends collectibles take on their own life and then I bought her a bumper load of normal lego in her favourite colour combo - white, pink, purple and blue as well as a base board so that we could build bigger things together. We've also added some other little characters. The collection now consists of Elsa, Fire Gecko, Rapunzle, Pascal, Another unnamed gecko, two Dora the Explora, a fairy called Robloxy and Little Bo Peep. Most of these other characters were found inside Kinder Joy and Dora Explora eggs.
Today we built this frozen castle and we decorated it with her latest addition which I gave her for Easter - Lego Dots!
If you follow the first image from left to right and top to bottom, you can see how the castle evolved. We built the outer walls and interlinked everything so that it wouldn't easily fall apart. I took the lead on the castle building because she struggled a bit with the 3D model vibe, but I let her help with the styling and decorating and she built most of the front roof.
We then got down to the fun of decorating the castle roof and front walls, she insisted that we put a stove and a basin inside the castle and we put some chairs outside around the rotating fire pit which you can see above.
The little dots are really cute and come in different configurations which you can see in the images below. There are little quarters, star topped circles, sparkly circles, transparent circles and little blocks with pictures on them. They are recommended for the Lego bracelets but I told the Lego salesperson that a Lego bracelet is a recipe for lost Lego and that we'll be using them differently - freestyling woohoo!
We then also went into the garden and I was handed a little Lego camera that she had made for me and she had a different camera model that she had made for herself and we scouted around taking make believe photos of everything from leaves to flowers, birds to snails. You can see if you look carefully in the first image It was wonderful fun.
It's all cost a small fortune over time, but I am looking at it as an investment because building in 3D and imaginative play is so good for her brain and she has been very good at looking after the pieces. She knows that after the play session is done, it all goes back into it's box - with the Lego Friends character sets placed into a sealable bag. Hopefully they can be kept safe for years to come and who knows, maybe she'll pass the collection down to her kids one day or sell it in a decade and a half and put a down payment on her first car lol
It was a really good day just building stuff, but my golly, building in all dimensions really does stretch your brain when you have to include windows, doors, little arrow slots (for defense of course) and a roof that won't cave in when little fingers pry inside. I'm not sure which one of us learnt more today.
Let me know what you think of our frozen castle and if you have any tips for helping her build, let me know in the comments.
