Welcome to the build of the most ambitious and largest single Lego set that I own.
It's the Chinese New Year Set for the year of the rat - and it's a temple and stalls, and trees, and heaps of minifigs and together they make up a Temple Fair. And when I say this set is big, it's 1664 pieces which makes it he 20th biggest set of the 794 sets that Lego has put out so far in 2020.
So let's start to have a look at that set. The first thing that appealed to me about this set was the sheer number of Minifigs - 14 in all including a family with a baby. A grandma and her grandkid (one assumes) and a guy that looks like a wizard.
You gotta see the baby
Hey nice hat
There there are four stalls, each selling different things, each of these stalls is incredibly detailed, and frankly fiddly to build - but the effect when completed is amazing - each is joined together by a string of lights as well.
First up is the food stall which would be the first place I stopped. in the centre is a BBQ complete with chicken drumsticks, there are pastries and bowls with cats faces on them, I mean who could want for more?
Then there is the toy and candy store with what I assume are meant to be soft toys of a panda and rabbit a duck and a rat (which will be useful in other rubbish based builds) there are also lollipops, balloons and a weird plane.
The third stall is pottery and dough figurine stall - The dough figurines I love - I see these tiny minifigs being used a statues in a microscale city - could be very interesting
Last up is the Shadow theatre, which is maybe the least exciting of the stalls - I do like the firecrackers, but I think the theatre would have been better with more than one scene =- Oh well you can't have everything
Now you can't have a Temple fair without a Temple so let's have a look at this - Really it's more of the facade of the temple rather than a whole temple but that's probably more than enough given the level of detail.
*Oh I forgot the trees - two awesome Cherry Blossom wishing trees, they would look good in any city *
I love this roof - the classic roofline - the ends are actually hinged which is impressive.
I also really like these printed pieces with the artwork - nicely done.
I'm really happy with this set - it's so different to most of the Lego I build. The only issue is I can't bring myself to take it apart again so I can't built other things from it.
