This is my first post into the Lego Community. Was pretty excited to see there was a Lego group! Lego has been such a positive trigger throughout lots of my life. As a young boy we would spend hours and hours building and trying to design stuff. The good old days, I don't remember too many of the themed sets back then, just lots of basic blocks and a few plates.
Lego did disappear from my life for a while but fast forward a few years and then it magically reappeared, in a big way, when I had my own son.
Basically my other half at the time was not too sure if I was buying it for him or me, LOL. It was definitely both. A win-win situation. Christmas, birthdays, whatever the excuse, we would add to the collection with mainly Star War and City Sets. We just couldn't get enough.
It was such a good bonding activity for my son and I as he was growing up, and all the other kids in the street were into Lego too. The Lego Club magazine and catalogue was great marketing as well, as we would plan our next purchase.
Even now with my son all grown up and hardly ever home, I still get a Lego set each year for under the Christmas tree and it always brings a smile to both our faces.
This year while shopping at Aldi, the Harry Potter Advent Calendar at $39 stopped me in my tracks. My new partner and I had just finished watching the complete Potter Series on Netflix. I doubted she had ever been into Lego but why not, she likes Harry Potter. I thought at worst my son and I could it make at all on Christmas day.
But to my delight and surprise each door gets open daily and the pieces get assembled. My partner say she has really enjoy working out the build and feels she has learned new skills.

I thought the set was great value with all the main mini figures.
The first advent calendar doors started at Harry's house in Privet Drive, then work there way around some of the scenes in the first movie. Including the Gringotts Bank carriage.
There was quite a few pieces from the train station and platform 9 3/4.
Last of all was the spinning top to make it all into a simple board game.
This is an old photo of some Lego collection from years ago. Sadly most was sold. At a pretty good price if I remember correctly to help get my son purchase a motor bike. Lots of the Star Wars stuff ended up very popular.

Hoping everyone has a great Christmas and Santa has some Legos in his sack for all the kids, Big and small.
