While the wind was blowing softly in the afternoon, I noticed a pair of tiny creatures doing something that would make singles jealous. Oh, how happy they were!
Suddenly, I remembered one of the characters from Emile Zola's Germinal novel, which I had recently read. Monsieur Hennebeau, a bourgeois who served as mine manager. Because he was always having problems with his wife, he became depressed, and as a result, he became envious of the miners' sexual freedom.
Monsieur Hennebeau was riding his horse home one evening. He inadvertently heard a noise from afar. He noticed many young couples who were actually miners. The young couple was making love behind the wall or in the bushes.
Monsieur Hennebeau watched them with envy, muttering to himself, why are these idiots still complaining about fate, when they can still have love, the only true happiness, and as much love as they want—something he didn't have at the time. Even he would gladly starve like the proletarians if he could go back to the beginning of his life story with a woman who willingly gave herself up to him on the ground to be fondled.
But, with exception of Monsieur Hennebeau, I am not in a position to envy them. Even seeing them makes me happy and amused. Yes, two ladybugs are having copulation. Ouch! How happy and lucky they were!
