Hello and welcome to the "Exploring Israel" series. I enjoy exploring my country by photowalking and photocycling¹
This is my entry post for the #monomad challenge in our Black and White community².
Today I will take you on the exploration walk in the "Six Million Lights" garden.
If you want to know more about Black and White community and #monomad challenge read MONOMAD - August 28th by . You will find the guidelines for posting if you would like to join.
All the photographs were taken with my Xiaomi note 10 pro phone while I was #walking and exploring my hometown of Holon in #Israel.
For more information about the city of Holon visit Wikipedia.
The garden is located on a small hill in the eastern part of the town. It sits between residential and industrial areas.
Find the garden by the red flag marker on the map.
We begin by approaching the garden, from the distance we see a circular work of art. We come closer to find five pillars standing in a circle and surrounding one large pillar in the center. The pillars look like they are candles and there are wires coming out from the top of the central pillar, symbolising candle flames.
The name "Six Million Lights" is written on the base.
As we walk around the monument we find a plaque that reads:
Holocaust Monument
"6 Million Lights"
Sculptured by Rachel Caspy
If you want to find more about the Holocaust visit Wikipedia.
We continue by discovering all the ways to enter the garden. There are several foot paths that lead us to enter.
We climb the stairs and enter the garden. We see a lot of green bushes, lush trees and grass lawns. The foot path is enclosed by greenry. We use a bench to sit, relax and take in the view.
We find a children's play ground and as we continue our walk we find another bigger children's playground.
Near the playground we find an enclosed basketball court.
We continue walking around the basketball court. It is surrounded by beautiful greenery and we stop to enjoy the view.
After passing the basketball court we see two big bundles of Aloe Vera plants growing near the path. The plants look plump and healthy, an interesting find in a garden.
Read about all the health benefits of this miraculous plant on Wikipedia.
Passing the Aloe Vera plants we come to a grass opening with five human statues.
As we come closer we see three children, two boys and a girl playing Hoop rolling. A woman sitting on two crates, playing a flute and a flying woman with an umbrella in the middle.
We come closer to investigate each statue up close.
All the statues are life-sized and are very detailed, especially the clothes.
I would like to believe that the statues connect to the memorial in front of the garden. The statue's clothing and a hoop rolling game suggest that they symbolise the victims of a Holocaust, as do five candles of the memorial that are extinguished.
I choose to present this garden in #blackandwhite because it adds an appropriate atmosphere to the theme of the garden.
And that is all for today's #blackandwhite post. Hope you enjoyed walking with me in the garden. I appreciate you for joining me. Until the next time.
Thank you for looking and reading. Any questions or comments, let me know. Always happy to help.
Have a great day!
