This is Harvey a Staffordshire Bull Terrier rescue dog from the world famous Battersea dogs home. He sadly is no longer with us but from the moment we collected him from Battersea Windsor he became a massive part of our family. When we first got him he had a few issues, skin problems mostly, probably due to being stray on the streets for a while. With a little nursing and medication these problems corrected themselves over time. It was after about a week of him living with us we noticed something else, "have you heard him bark at all" the wife asked me one day. Strange it was he had not made a noise in all this time, we continued to monitor the situation for the next couple of weeks and not a peep. Well by now we came to the conclusion he was mute not a big issue and not life changing for him. A few days later we had popped out to do some shopping, on returning home we entered the house and were puzzled as to where our usual greeting at the door was, Harvey was nowhere to be seen. A quick look around the house and I discovered the bedroom door slightly ajar, on entering the room I found him lying on our bed sunbathing in the afternoon light coming through the window, "what are you doing on there cheeky" I asked. In a fit of excitement he jumped up and started spinning on the spot one way then the other and then consumed by the fun he was having he started barking very loudly, so loud and unexpectedly it actually made me jump. On hearing this the wife came into the room and equally shocked we both had a good laugh. We have no idea why he had remained silent all this time, we put it down to some prior trauma but whatever the case we were happy he had found his voice. Going forward he was never much of a barker but get him down the beach with a ball and he would always howl when having fun.
Here with a fisheye close up.
His nose looks amazing.
Here just looking handsom!
Too many dogs find themselves in dog homes, if you are ever considering getting a dog please do the right thing and give one of these chaps a second bite at life. Harvey always missed never forgotten.
