Hello everyone. I hope you are having a good weekend and I introduce myself here in the Black and White community, since this is the first time I post in the community. Today I bring you a collection of photographs that I took some years ago when I discovered the love for photography. So here we go.
Back in 2017 I was taking a subject in college called 'Photography and Film'. I always loved film so I never missed a class and I got as much out of this subject as I could. The professor in charge of the course was Isabel Falcón. She was a professional photographer and a film buff at heart. She always had something to talk about and one listened carefully. With her I learned to love some directors I didn't know and also to analyze the visual language of these films.
In one of those many classes, he decided that we should start working on the practical part, that is, we had to take some photographs. What he presented here was just one of those sessions. We were still learning about the equipment, the shots, the contrast, the lighting, etc. My job was to choose some models, in this case, as it was an individual evaluation and the space was small, we all took turns playing the role of model and photographer.
Hola a todos. Espero que estén teniendo un buen fin de semana y me presento por acá en la comunidad de Blanco y negro, ya que es primera vez que público en la comunidad. El día de hoy les traigo una colección de fotografías que realice hace algunos años cuando descubrí el amor por la fotografía. Así que aquí vamos.
Por allá en el 2017 estaba cursando una materia en la universidad llamada 'Fotografia y Cine'. Siempre ame el cine así que nunca me perdía una clase y saque todo el provecho que pude a esta materia. La profesora a cargo de la cátedra era, Isabel Falcón. Ella se dedicaba profesionalmente a la fotografía y era una cinéfila de corazón. Siempre tenía algo de que hablar al respecto y uno escuchaba con detenimiento. Con ella aprendí ha amar algunos directores que desconocía y también ha analizar el lenguaje visual que tienen estos films.
En una de esas tantas clases, decidió que debíamos empezar a trabajar en la parte práctica, es decir, teníamos que realizar algunas fotografías. Esto que presentó aquí fue tan solo una de esas sesiones. Estábamos aún conociendo sobre los equipos, los planos, el contraste, la iluminación, etc. Mi trabajo era escoger algunos modelos, en este caso, como era una evaluación individual y el espacio era pequeño, entre todos nos turnamos para hacer el papel de modelo y fotógrafo.
I decided to take portraits that were in black and white. For this I took a black sheet to serve as a black background and a bedside lamp I had at home, that light was going to help me make some Rembrandt style portraits. I didn't have a professional camera so I used an old iPhone 5 which had better resolution than my other phone. It's not ideal but it was what we had. I was really looking forward to it so I started setting the stage, doing my models' makeup, setting up the lamp and doing some tests.
The truth is that I liked the results quite a lot. The only thing that affected me a lot was the overexposure at the top of some of the pictures. That light came from a window that was very very high and we had no way to hide that entrance. We tried everything but we couldn't, even other rooms, but they all had the same window. However, despite that mishap, I feel that for the resources we had we did a good job.
Yo decidí tomar retratos que estuvieran en blanco y negro. Para ello lleve una sábana negra para que me sirviera de fondo negro y una lámpara de cabecera que tenía en mi casa, esa luz me iba ha ayudar a realizar algunos retratos al estilo Rembrandt. No tenía una cámara profesional por lo cual utilice un viejo iPhone 5 que tenía mejor resolución que mi otro teléfono. No es lo idóneo pero, era lo que teníamos. Estaba muy ilusionada con ello así que empecé a preparar el escenario, maquillar a mis modelos, ubicar la lámpara y a hacer algunas pruebas.
La verdad es que los resultados me gustaron bastante. Lo único que me afectó bastante fue la sobreexposición que se ve en la parte superior de algunas fotografías. Esa luz provenía de una ventana que se encontraba muy muy alto y no teníamos manera de ocultar esa entrada. Lo intentamos con todo pero no pudimos, incluso otros salones pero, todos tenían la misma ventana. Sin embargo, a pesar de ese percance, siento que para los recursos que teníamos logramos un buen trabajo.
In the portraits I did, I tried to tell a story. They had an intention. I liked the contrast of the grays that the image generated so I needed to try with the light to imitate that Rembrandt effect and let the models' expressions be the protagonists. Everything else didn't matter. I placed some of my colleagues from the front, from the side, to test the ideal angle. Finally these were some of the results.
This experience made me realize that I like taking pictures and that painting and photography have a great relationship. Both depend on the light, the capture of an image, the color or the grays, the composition, the volume and even the intentionality of that creation. I still love photography even though I no longer dedicate myself to experiment, because I openly say that I am not a professional. Let's say an amateur hehehe but I do enjoy contemplating a good photograph. Thank you very much for stopping by, taking some of your time and getting to know me. En los retratos que realicé intenté contar una historia. Tenían una intención. Me gustaba el contraste de los grises que generaba la imagen por lo que necesitaba probar con la luz para imitar ese efecto Rembrandt y que las expresiones de las modelos fueran las protagonistas. Todo lo demás no importaba. Coloque ha algunas de mis compañeras de frente, de lado, para probar el ángulo ideal. Finalmente estos fueron algunos de los resultados.
Esta experiencia me hizo darme cuenta de que me gusta tomar fotografías y que, la pintura y la fotografía tienen una relación muy grande. Ambos dependen de la luz, de la captura de una imagen, del color o de los grises, de la composición, del volumen y hasta de la intencionalidad de esa creación. Sigo amando la fotografía aunque ya no me dedique a experimentar, porque digo abiertamente que no soy ninguna profesional. Digamos una amateur jejeje pero sí que disfruto de contemplar una buena fotografía. Muchísimas por pasar por aquí, tomar un poco de su tiempo y conocerme.
