Hi fellow Monochrome Fans,
Today I wanted to share some experimentation I did with some different software and editing techniques!
Smoke Bomb Monochrome
One of the things that I've been playing around with, and my wife a little bit as well, is doing some image manipulation in different software programs! There's the obvious favorite for many, Adobe Lightroom but that is only free for people who have iPhones or iPads, otherwise you have to pay for it. We are trying to keep costs minimal so we use it on our phones. When I'm on my computer though, for a few reasons I have been trying to get into open source and different software programs. I also use the GIMP software! It's pretty good and takes a little while to learn but it's some pretty solid stuff that I've been playing around with.
For the photo experiments today I chose the smoke bomb photos we took recently over Halloween and wanted to mess around with those. The below 2 images are with Lightroom on my phone. I can't tell you what settings I was messing around with, I was just kind of adjusting things and trying to see what looked cool lol. They are obviously heavily edited but I kind of like the way it turned out. The smoke looks grainy!
Each of the groups of photo I include the raw, unedited image as well as the edited one so you can see what it looked like before vs. after.
The pumpkin on the right looks like it's got sand coming out of it's mouth or something lol.
For this monochrome photo I used GIMP on my laptop. I like to try and get familiar with, and better with, programs on the computers so that I can use it in greater depth than I could on a phone.
This one was just a regular color conversion to monochrome. I think it did the job and came out well enough.
This one here was my favorite of the ones on GIMP! I used the Grayscale image edit option and it really changed the dynamic of the photo quite a bit!
I love the way it came out for sure, it's more dramatic in my opinion!
Whaddya Think?
What do you think about the edits I did? Did I do it a little too strong? Don't hesitate to let me know! Lol
