This past weekend was Street Rod Nationals here in Louisville and I couldn't help but drop by for the show. Not the car show, that cost money to get in and the real show was happening outside anyways.
Every year they have Street Rod Nationals at the fairgrounds and every year they seem to spend more time cruising up and down the street outside than actually at the car show. Ends up being it's own show, people bring chairs and coolers and post up along the sides of the road.
You never really know what you're going to see, and that applies to the people as much as the vehicles. Lately I've been trying to figure out how to take Hunter S. Thompson's gonzo and apply it to photography and this seemed like the perfect shindig to do a little experimenting along those lines.
Still got a ways to go before I get gonzo photography nailed down but I'll do a post on that eventually. Things didn't work out quite as I'd hoped, the crowd ended up being much tamer than in years past but it was probably for the best.
If things had gotten too gonzo somebody would've had a heart attack and that would have spoiled the spectacle. Much of the crowd was as classic as the cars, which could explain why they weren't partying as hard as in years past. Not everybody had mellowed out though, there were still a few young at heart types gate crashing.
Eventually lost count but I'm pretty sure the mobility scooters outnumbered the street rods. Makes me wonder if street rods don't even up being another thing us millennials kill. When the boomers have shuffled off this mortal coil and everybody is driving electric vehicles, how many people will even know how to work on a street rod?
Give it a few decades, we'll be the steam engine enthusiasts of the future! Does this count as the silver years of the internal combustion engine?
What is it they teach the kids these days? Oh yeah, a group of Karens is called a HOA.
Hold my beer y'all, not sure where I was going with this...
... but I'm sure she knows the way. Is this what 'Jesus, take the wheel' looks like?
There you have it folks, the best of the show.
