Macro lenses are fun. They'd probably be even more fun if I knew what I was doing with one. Minor details... How many bad photos do you have to take before it counts the same as reading the instructions?
42? Never mind, that's the answer to a different question. For reasons that escape me, I have a fondness for learning things the old fashioned way. By old fashioned I mean fucking up until I figure it out, trial and error but with profanity.
With no expectations I set about harassing the critters and seeing what I could figure out. It was definitely a learning experience... The shallow depth of field made getting all of anything in focus quite the challenge. Autofocus was uncooperative so I mostly shot on manual. Eventually figured out that it was easier to move the camera in and out to adjust the focus than actually using the focus ring on the lens.
Had the hardest time telling if something was in focus looking through the viewfinder, or rather I would think it was in focus until I looked at it in photoshop. I guess even the least movements are magnified so it makes sense but it's still annoying. Ended up with lots of slightly blurry could-have-beens, these photos are the least disappointing of the bunch. Gonna have to try for more trial and less error next time...
Who else has been less than successful playing with a macro?
