This past weekend I got to do something that wasn't even on my bucket list. Was offered the opportunity to shoot the second edition of a music festival called Roots Revue for the local weekly alternative newspaper. Didn't even take the time to think twice or check the lineup before I said yes.
Eventually thought to look and see who was playing, discovered that none other than two time Bluegrass Hall of Famer Sam Bush was headlining the first night of the festival. This ain't you're grandpappy's bluegrass, it's that new grass!
Sam Bush is one of the founding fathers of progressive bluegrass, and it was here in Louisville with the band New Grass Revival that he brought that to the fore. Needless to say, his return to the city did not disappoint.
He even sat in for a few songs with the local band that preceded him on stage, and for the encore had everyone who'd played that day come out and jam with him. The only bad part about it was that the auditory feast had to come to an end.
Between Saturday and Sunday, ten different groups took the stage, I'm still slightly in shock that I got to capture it all. Had to post a few shots, once I figure out what the paper is getting I'll post some more. Until then, keep ridin' that bluegrass train!
