Dolichotis Patagonum | Monomad Challenge [ENG/ESP]

Dolichotis Patagonum is the scientific name of one of the largest rodents in the world, known as the Patagonian Mara belonging to South America. Before publishing this post I spent a couple of minutes to investigate and learn a little more about this animal, which I portrayed in the ecological park, Ecoparque, former zoo of Buenos Aires, being one of the most abundant animals in this place and running free throughout the extensive park.

I was reading that although they look like hares they do not belong to this family and that there are specimens that weigh from 8 kg to 16 kg and can also run at a speed of more than 40 km/h when they feel threatened.

Now let's talk about photographic terms...

Photographing animals can often be a very complicated job depending on what animals you are photographing, especially birds and animals that move very fast, but this time it is different. These are very calm animals that allow you to capture them in a very easy and calm way. I used my 79-300mm lens and was able to get very close shots and get more detail.

Eliminating saturation and playing a little with shadows, contrasts, white balance gave me the opportunity to have these results, I knew beforehand that I wanted the photos of these small animals in black and white and that they would be part of the monomad challenge to share with all of you.

Dolichotis Patagonum es el nombre científico de uno de los roedores más grande del mundo, conocido como la Mara Patagónica perteneciente a América del Sur. Antes de publicar este post me dedique un par de minutos a investigar y conocer un poco más sobre este animal, el cual retraté en el parque ecológico, Ecoparque, antiguo zoológico de Buenos Aires, siendo uno de los animales que más abunda en este lugar y que corren libres por todo el extenso parque.

Estaba leyendo que aunque se parecen a las liebres no pertenecen a esta familia y que existen ejemplares que pesan desde 8 kg a 16 kg pudiendo correr también a una velocidad de más de 40 km/h cuando estos se sienten amenazados.

Ahora hablemos de términos fotográficos...

Fotografiar animales muchas veces pueden ser un trabajo muy complicado dependiendo de que animales estés retratando, sobretodo aves y animales que se mueven muy rápido, pero en esta ocasión es diferente. Estos son animales muy tranquilos que te permiten capturarlos de forma muy fácil y tranquila. Yo usé mi lente 79-300mm y pude llegar a hacer tomas muy de cerca pudiendo obtener más detalles.

Eliminando la saturación y jugando un poco con las sombras, contrastes, balance de blancos me dió la oportunidad de tener estos resultados, ya de antemano sabía que quería las fotos de estos pequeños animales en blanco y negro y que serían parte del reto monomad para compartirlo con todos ustedes.
