I like coming to write every night.
It’s something that does me good,
that has helped me organize many of the ideas I carry
but don’t express easily—
or don’t have the chance to talk about properly.
And that’s okay.
Me gusta venir a escribir todas las noches.
Es algo que me hace bien
y que me ha hecho ordenar varias de las ideas que tengo
pero que no expreso de buenas a primeras
o que no tengo la oportunidad de conversar apropiadamente.
Y eso está bien.
These photos are from the circus,
and I’ve always loved the circus.
As a kid, I dreamed—like many kids—
of becoming a great acrobat.
And I think a part of that dream still lives in me.
But life didn’t place me there.
On the other hand, it placed her exactly there.
Estas fotos son de circo
y siempre me gustó el circo.
Soñé de niño, así como muchos niños,
en ser un gran acróbata.
Y creo que actualmente algo de eso todavía lo tengo,
pero la vida no me puso allí.
Y por otro lado, a esta chica la puso exactamente allí.
I love all body-based arts.
Some more than others—
but without a doubt, they fascinate and entertain me.
Circus is a world I’d love to know more about,
to get more involved with,
but I haven’t had the opportunity to be more present in it.
Still, it’s not something that keeps me up at night.
Todas las artes que tienen que ver con el cuerpo me gustan mucho,
unas más que otras,
pero sin duda son artes que me encantan
y que me entretienen mucho.
El circo es un mundo del cual me gustaría saber más
e involucrarme más,
pero no he tenido la oportunidad de hacer más presencia.
Pero es algo que no me quita el sueño.
I’ve talked to circus artists.
It’s hard for them to dedicate themselves fully—
people often associate “circus” with face painting,
clowns, or Spider-Man at birthday parties.
And that’s because in Venezuela
we don’t have much circus culture.
But honestly, I believe that’s a matter
of the right people showing up to teach what circus truly is.
He conversado con artistas de circo
que es difícil para ellos dedicarse a ello
porque las personas asocian la idea de circo a pinta caritas,
payasos o Spider-Man,
y es debido a que en Venezuela no tenemos mucha cultura de circo.
Pero yo sinceramente creo
que eso es una perspectiva en la cual
solo faltan las personas apropiadas para educar sobre este arte.
I wish there were more circus.
When I was a kid, there was a lot of street theater,
and my mom used to take me to see it.
I’d love to do that with my daughters.
Even so, the experiences I do share with them
are still beautiful—
and I’m grateful for them.
Me gustaría que hubiese más circo.
Cuando era niño había mucho teatro de calle
y mi mamá me llevaba.
Me gustaría poder hacer eso con mis hijas.
Pero aun así,
las experiencias que comparto con ellas
también son buenas
y las agradezco.
