Hello Black and White community. It's been awhile for me to do a posting here. I've been juggling a lot with my work a lot since the end of the year 2022. To be honest, its quite hard for me to write a blog since my focus is occupied to my work. This is my first entry for this community for this year.
Just recently, I have visited a new night market place event in town located at the heart of Kota Kinabalu city. The usual place that I used to visit is the Gaya Street Night market and now, quite a lot of new night market popping up around the city. This event is called the Car Boot Sales which mainly sales a second hand or used item located at the parking lot of Wisma Kebudayaan Negeri Sabah. It's good that this place have this event at night during the weekend. At least this place looked lively and less scary at night. Here's a few shoot that I get from this walkabout.
Here's a blurred photo trying to experiment using the slow shutter released skill on the two of my friend and
I've seen them using this technique and I also want to give it a try and not very surprising to have this kind of result.
Another street photography technique that I tried is to snap randomly, sneakily just at the level of my chest without seeing the composition first. Street photography is actually very intimidating for me and to lessen these fear, I used this technique snapping away without seeing the subject eye to eye pretending that I didn't take the photo but of course at the expanse of not getting the right composition. But sometimes, the result that I get surprise me. It's really been a long time that I do this kind of photography.
Lastly, being creative with the composition that I find interesting. This balloon cover with lights became an interesting foreground subject for my composition. The next challenge for me is to get the background focus and this is the result.
I've been using the black mist filter for this photo. Thus, the strong halation on the highlights part. I've been obsessed with cinematic looks on my photo edit recently and one of the ingredient is the halation. Usually halation happen when shooting with film, an effect that occurs when the bright areas of an image appear to softly bleed around the edges of dark areas. This is caused by light going through the emulsion layer, bouncing off the base of the film and exposing the adjacent emulsion. I mimic this effect using a black mist filter with the strength of 1/4. This effect can also be made in photoshop or lightroom but I've not used this filter for quite sometimes. So, I used this to keep on experimenting on when is the suitable case scenario for me to used this filter. So, this is it for now. Until the next post. Have a great day everyone.
