My entry on #monomad challenge.
A day is set aside for cultural Day during the 21 days NYSC camp. Its a day where we show the diversity of Nigeria culture .
Nigeria is country with various ethnic groups with each having diverse culture. Language, food, music, mode of dressing, etc are examples of different culture.
But I will talk about very few
The Benin tribe
This attire is the Oba of Benin and his wife they are always seen covering their mouth. The covering of the mouth for the Oba (king) of Benin signifies that his words are supreme, so he usually has someone that talks for him. When he talks it means his passing a law. The queen of Oba covers her mouth to show she's submitted to the Oba and the laws of the land.
The Hausa Tribe
The king and their religious leaders wear head turbans which covers a part of their face. They wear a flowing gown called Babban Riga( also known as Agbada) and it has embroidery designs around the neck and chest area.
The men wear kaftan and colorful caps which also has embroidery designs and the women wear Ankara blouse and long skirt with a veil round the neck or their head.
The Igbo Tribe
The king wears a top called Isi agu which means head of a lion with beads on his neck and black trouser. The king carries hand fan and a walking stick. While the queen either she wear a blouse and tie wrapper on her waist or she ties it her her chest, she's decorated with beads on her neck and her hand. She carries a horse tail on her hand...
I had to talk about these tribes because I personally took the pictures not because there are better than the rest.
I would love to know your cultural attire at the comment section.
