Between Houses and Boulevards
Exploring the streets of Caracas’ historic center is a wonderful experience, as you’re likely to stumble upon little treasures hidden in plain sight. You might easily recognize the facades of the Liberator’s birthplace, the Bolivarian Museum, or the Palace of the Academies, but as we wander through side streets and outlying avenues, we can also admire structures that are a bit less grand, yet whose past is just as significant. These are buildings that were once schools, family homes, or public spaces, but which, in one way or another, have stood the test of time and left us an invaluable historical legacy.

Entre Casas y Bulevares
Adentrarse a descubrir las calles del centro histórico de Caracas es una experiencia maravillosa, puesto que es bastante probable que nos encontremos con pequeños tesoros que se encuentran escondidos a la vista de todos, quizás podamos reconocer con facilidad las fachadas de la casa natal del Libertador, el museo bolivariano o el Palacio de las Academias, pero al pasearnos por transversales y calle periféricas también podremos admirar estructuras un poco menos nobles, pero cuyo pasado es igual de grande, se trata de edificaciones que en algún momento fueron escuelas, hogares familiares o recintos públicos, pero que de alguna u otra forma han logrado trascender en el tiempo y dejarnos un legado histórico invaluable.
Photography works its magic, gifting us with unique snapshots where we can catch a glimpse of the past without taking our eyes off the present. In cities like Caracas, life moves at an impressive pace, and sometimes this prevents us from observing our own roots—and that is how we miss the opportunity to experience and get to know the city that lies hidden beneath modernity and development.
La fotografía hace su magia, regalándonos capturas únicas, en donde podemos echarle un vistazo al pasado, sin alejar nuestra mirada del presente. En ciudades como Caracas, la vida transcurre con una velocidad impresionante y a veces esto no nos permite observar las propias raíces y es así como nos perdemos la oportunidad de vivir y conocer a esa ciudad que se esconde de la modernidad y el desarrollo.
In every photo series and on every journey I take, I’m not looking to capture the idyllic image, a magazine cover, or a post with lots of likes. Instead, the main idea is to give you a little taste of the reality of my city, to showcase lesser-known spaces, and to share a bit of my personal experiences—so that together we can enjoy a unique moment, an image with a story, and a setting that doesn’t show idyllic places, but rather our social reality.
En cada serie fotográfica y en cada recorrido dado, no busco encontrar la imagen idílica, la portada de una revista o un post con muchos likes, sino que la idea principal es regalarles un poquito de la realidad de mi ciudad, visualizar los espacios poco conocidos y contarles un tanto de mis experiencias personales, para que de esta forma juntos podamos disfrutar de un momento diferente, una imagen con historia y un entorno que no muestra lugares idílicos, sino nuestra realidad social.
Furthermore, black-and-white photography allows us to see details, appreciate the context, and give a bit of personality to those images captured by a third party. From my perspective, it’s a much closer relationship, where art interacts directly with all participants, creating a unique environment, more sincere feedback, and a much deeper analytical capacity.
Además, la fotografía en blanco y negro nos permite visualizar detalles, disfrutar del contexto y darle un poco de personalidad a esas imágenes capturadas por un tercero. Desde mi perspectiva, se trata de una relación mucho más cercana, en donde el arte interactúa de manera directa con todos los participantes, generando un entorno único, un feedback más sincero y una capacidad analítica mucho más profunda.
