I am always amazed when I see art formed uniquely by brilliant and creative minds. Something that not only uses the basics but also other forms of art using creative materials. Unique and creative, I believe, is what makes art stand out from the rest.
When I saw The Eve exhibition at K11 Musea hallway one weekend, I was awed and astounded upon seeing the corpse-looking figure of a man suspended upside down from the hall's ceiling enclosed in a glass cube. We first thought it was an art sculpture inspired by science fiction characters, such as zombies and creatures with apocalyptic features.
This unique sculpture was created by an L.A.-based Canadian artist, David Altmejd entitled The Eve in 2014. Based on the information posted on the plaque beside it, this sculpture is made from plexiglass, polystyrene, polyurethane foam, quartz, epoxy clay and gel, synthetic hair, flower, and branch. It has a made of a glass eye with organic materials such as resin, coconuts, and sesame seeds, and is formed with metal wires and a lighting system.
In all honesty, it looks disgusting up close. It looks like a decaying corpse with some parts deteriorated, peeled, and broken. But what caught my attention were the organic products used in the sculpture. The figure looks holding slices of banana. On its side were cut kiwis. On its information, it also uses coconut, resin, and sesame seeds, which I couldn't see from the figure.
The artist David's work, based on his bio, is a unique and heady mix of science and magic, science fiction and gothic romanticism: a post-apocalyptic vision that is at the same time essentially optimistic, containing as it always does the potential for regeneration, evolution and invention. source
The exhibition only lasted for a certain period and I felt truly grateful to see such superb masterpiece. There are a lot more art exhibitions in some parts of this mall, the world's first art mall.
