Buenas nuevamente a todos los amantes de la Fotografía en blanco y negro. Con esta publicación participo nuevamente en los retos diarios de #monomad. En este artículo quiero compartir una breve historia que me ocurrió junto a los fotógrafos del club de fotografía Safari Habana durante uno de nuestros safaris fotográficos. Es muy común en mi país encontrarse con personas de la tercera edad en parques públicos descansando en bancos o durmiendo en ellos incluso. Muchos de estos ancianos pueden exhibir un aspecto algo molesto para muchas personas y por tanto son frecuentemente ignorados. Durante uno de nuestros safaris nos encontramos con este señor, que poseía incluso, una vestimenta que hacía alusión a que estuvo ingresado en un centro para discapacitados mentales.
Good morning to all lovers of black and white photography. With this publication I participate again in the daily challenges of #monomad. In this article I want to share a brief story that happened to me together with the photographers of the Safari Habana photography club during one of our photographic safaris. It is very common in my country to meet the elderly in public parks resting on benches or even sleeping on them. Many of these elderly people can exhibit a somewhat annoying appearance to many people and therefore are frequently ignored. During one of our safaris we met this man, who even had a clothing that alluded to being admitted to a center for the mentally disabled.
Este anciano se encontraba solo en un parque público y decidimos acercarnos un grupo de fotógrafos para entablar conversación con él. Para acercarnos utilizamos una guitarra que poseíamos en el grupo y empezamos a cantar canciones populares y tradicionales del país. Fue muy gratificante como rápidamente la expresión del rostro de este señor mostró un gesto de alegría e inició rápidamente a conversar con nosotros. Nos compartió información de cómo había sido de dura su vida al no poseer una familia que lo atienda ni un hogar en condiciones para vivir. Incluso añadió que la imposibilidad de trabajar por su discapacidad impide satisfacer en gran medida sus necesidades básicas estando a merced de la caridad de las personas que pasan por el lugar. Luego seguimos cantando algunas canciones de su época y se nos unió cantando hasta que explotó en llantos. Sus lágrimas se debieron a que al menos unos minutos del día se sintió acompañado y alegre según nos decía con sus ojos llorosos.
This old man was alone in a public park and we decided to approach a group of photographers to start a conversation with him. To get closer we used a guitar that we owned in the group and we began to sing popular and traditional songs of the country. It was very gratifying how quickly the expression on this man's face showed a gesture of joy and he quickly began to talk with us. He shared information with us about how hard his life had been because he did not have a family to take care of him or a home in conditions to live. He even added that the inability to work due to his disability largely prevents meeting his basic needs, being at the mercy of the charity of the people who pass through the place. Then we continued singing some songs from his time and he joined us singing until he burst into tears. His tears were due to the fact that at least a few minutes of the day he felt accompanied and happy as he told us with his watery eyes.
Para todos los que estábamos en el lugar el impacto emocional fue bastante grande con lágrimas en ojos de muchos de nosotros. Es lamentable que personas tengan que pasar tanto trabajo en la vida de forma injusta y que muchas de las personas ni siquiera sientan empatía por ellas por simplemente su aspecto físico. Cada persona es digna de conocer, todas tienen una historia que contar.
For all of us who were in the place the emotional impact was quite great with tears in the eyes of many of us. It is unfortunate that people have to go through so much work in life unfairly and that many of the people do not even feel empathy for them simply because of their physical appearance. Each person is worth knowing, they all have a story to tell.
