This aquatic animal species is said to have existed on planet Earth around 250 million years ago. Therefore, those still found today are described as living fossils. A form of life from so long ago that can still be seen today. It is called the Horseshoe crab from the Limulidae family.
This animal is often found on intertidal beaches near mangroves. I also took these pictures in one such place in Aceh. I read that it inhabits sandy deep seas, but when it wants to spawn, it goes to the beach. The eggs can reach tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands. The eggs are eaten by shorebirds. The crabs are consumed by humans. And their species has lived for hundreds of millions of years!
Horseshoe crab blood is blue and is used in medical applications, but something quite interesting about this animal is its pointed tail, which it uses to wake up when its body is turned upside down. It's called a telson. Ah never mind! Such information can be accessed on many sites, such as Wikipedia. Now, let's look at the pictures I took. Do these pictures impress you?😁
This is my entry for the #monomad challenge.
