ut on a brave face" was my grandfather’s favorite saying. He’d repeat it over and over whenever the absurdities of daily life came to light.

mal tiempo, buena cara" era la frase preferida de mi abuelo. La repetía una y otra vez cada vez que salían a la luz los desatinos de la vida diaria.

I think we Cubans have become quite skilled at that philosophy. At least it works for me. If I’m taking a photo and someone gives me a negative or suspicious look, I just smile… and, as if by magic, everything changes.

Creo que los cubanos nos hemos especializado bastante en esa filosofía. Por lo menos a mí me funciona. Si estoy haciendo alguna fotografía y alguien me lanza una mirada negativa o de sospecha, entonces sonrío… y, como por arte de magia, todo cambia.

Here are some photos where, in a way, putting on a brave face saved the day. And when I say “brave face,” understand that I’m referring more to a matter of attitude.

Estas son algunas imágenes donde, de alguna manera, poner buena cara me salvó. Y cuando digo buena cara, entiéndase que me refiero más bien a una cuestión de actitud.
