Hello friends of #blackandwhite, how's everything going?
Telling stories through images is something that has captivated me for quite some time now. In theory, I've always been fascinated by the idea, but putting it into practice is another matter entirely. For several reasons, one of the most important for me is empathy: getting closer to people, trying to be part of their world, even if only for a few moments. It doesn't always work, but most of the time it does.
It's inevitable to start asking questions.
What is that person doing there? Are they waiting for someone?
The questions multiply, and then I take a step back, not to distance myself, but to take in the whole context. Perhaps their life is going through difficulties, like that half-finished building surrounding them. I ask myself many questions... too many sometimes.
I would like to say "Made in Cuba," but in this case I feel that the correct phrase would be: "Preserved and surviving in Cuba."
Every day I see more pigeons in the city parks, even though there is a recent business of some boys catching them and then selling them. It's sad, yes. While the scene lasts, as picturesque as it is sad, I take pictures of them.
The guy who caught them ended up ruining my shot... but hey, at least he gave me something abstract.
Havana from the window of the boat crossing the bay: always different, always the same.
This little dog, on the other hand, gave me a tremendous fright. There it was, motionless, like a ghost, staring at me intently, as if in another life it had been human and wanted to tell me something.

And to finish off, a rather turbulent Malecón, with water and cold. Landscapes like this attract me because of their drama, because of what they say without saying anything.

_______________Hola amigos de #blackandwhite, ¿cómo va todo?
Contar historias a través de imágenes es algo que me viene cautivando desde hace ya un tiempo. En teoría siempre me fascinó la idea, pero llevarla a la realidad, a la práctica, es otra cosa muy distinta. Por varias razones, y una de las más importantes para mí es la empatía: acercarme a las personas, intentar formar parte —aunque sea por unos instantes— de su mundo. No siempre funciona, pero la mayoría de las veces sí.
Es inevitable empezar a hacerse preguntas.
¿Qué hará esa persona allí? ¿Espera a alguien?
Las interrogantes se multiplican y entonces tomo distancia, no para alejarme, sino para abarcar todo el contexto. Quizás su vida atraviesa dificultades, como esa construcción a medio hacer que la rodea. Me hago muchas preguntas… demasiadas a veces.Me gustaría decir “Hecho en Cuba”, pero en este caso siento que la frase correcta sería: “Conservado y sobreviviendo en Cuba.”
Cada día veo más palomas en los parques de la ciudad, aun cuando existe el reciente negocio de algunos muchachos que las atrapan para luego venderlas. Es penoso, sí. Mientras dura la escena, tan pintoresca como triste, les hago fotos.
El chico que las atrapaba terminó estropeando mi encuadre… pero bueno, al menos me regaló algo abstracto.
La Habana desde la ventanilla de la lancha que cruza la bahía: siempre distinta, siempre la misma.
Este perrito, en cambio, me dio tremendo susto. Allí estaba, inmóvil, como un fantasma, observándome fijamente, como si en otra vida hubiera sido humano y quisiera decirme algo.
La señora que quería comprar en el mercado.
Y para cerrar, un Malecón bastante revuelto, de agua y de frío. Paisajes así me atraen por lo dramático, por lo que dicen sin decir nada.
