any times, when I’m about to leave the house, my sister — who always wants to know everything — asks me, “What’s the plan for today?” And my answer is almost always the same: “I don’t know, I’ll just let myself be guided.”

uchas veces, cuando voy a salir de casa, mi hermana —que todo lo quiere saber— me pregunta: “¿Cuál es el plan para el día?”. Y mi respuesta casi siempre es la misma: “No sé, pienso dejarme guiar.”

It’s not difficult to find a routine when going out to take photos in the streets of Havana. Life here is so fluid, restless, chaotic, sometimes mysterious, and in certain places even strangely calm, that instead of searching for a path, the path simply appears on its own. You just have to let yourself go with it.

No es difícil encontrar una rutina para salir a hacer fotos por las calles de La Habana. La vida aquí es tan fluida, agitada, convulsa, a ratos misteriosa y, en algunos sitios, curiosamente tranquila, que más que buscar un camino, el camino termina apareciendo solo. Basta con dejarse llevar.

Today I’d like to share a series I made yesterday that, in one way or another, reflects that very way of looking.

Hoy quiero compartirles una serie que hice ayer y que, de alguna manera, refleja justamente esa forma de mirar.

That’s who we are and how we live. You have to be here to experience it firsthand. There’s something almost mystical about it, something hard to explain. Maybe that’s why it’s so exciting to go out with a camera in hand and, in one way or another, immerse yourself in this urban rhythm.

Así somos y así vivimos. Hay que estar aquí para experimentarlo en primera persona. Tiene algo de místico, difícil de explicar. Tal vez por eso resulta tan apasionante salir con la cámara en la mano y, de una forma u otra, sumergirse en esta dinámica citadina.
