Title: BW birds - black redstart
Today was the day to complete specific yard tasks. We just recently switched to using wood for heating, so it was first essential to clean the ash out of the stove. We don't toss away the ash; rather, we use and will continue to use some of it in the garden to improve the soil. At least up until a point where it is enough for the entire yard. As soon as I stepped outside, I heard the well-known Black Redstart singing. For years, this kind of bird has been raising its young in my yard. Although it is prevalent all year, in winter months it's rarely seen.
When the weather starts to get better and insects start to emerge, you can see it on building roofs and hear its distinctive song.
I consistently observed the bird's insect-hunting technique during the two hours I spent in the yard. Each time lowering to the ground from the roof and then going back up.
I ultimately made the choice to pause and bring my camera. The bird totally vanished for the first few minutes and hid under the roof. I turned up the volume to its maximum remembering that I had a program installed with the sounds of different species of birds. I played the call first, followed by the song. The bird returned after a few moments. It started to scan the area around me and to my side for a bird. I was able to get near enough so that it wouldn't flee, and I then began taking the photos I'm about to share with you.
