Ever been to a place that brings you back in time?
I'm not a car fanatic, by far; I would gladly skip cars and motos entirely if I could just ride a bicycle everytime. But when I visited Cuba, the classic cars got my attention. It seemed I was in a classic movie!
It's been already 13 years since I've visited Havana (time flies!!); there were some newer cars, but these classic cars were all over the place. And it's wasn't one of those things made for tourists: with all the import bans Cuba had to endure, the only way to maintain the automobile fleet, was to keep the ones in the country going, since it was hard to get new cars in the island!
The result? Being able to see these beauties, perfectly maintained, everywhere you go. Perfect candidates for a monomad challenge! I'm guessing that for the ones that enjoy classic cars, a trip to Havana feels like Heaven!
Not only classic cars can you find in Havana. The trucks and buses are also from early last century, and they're exactly the same you would see in an american classic movie. I was searching for a decent bus photo in my archive, but couldn't find any (have I told you how bad of a photographer I was a few years ago?), so this truck will have to do to illustrate my point.
Another classic? Police cars!
Can you feel the 50's vibe?
Travelling here brings you back in time; Cuba has a ton of things to offer, and being able to see these cars in perfect condition is just a very tiny part of it. So consider it as another of the (many!) Cuban attractions!
Now that I think of it, 13 years is a long time. Maybe things have changed, and they are not that common anymore. Honestly, crossing finger they still are; it's part of Havana's charm!
