Our planet has tons of different landscapes, from deserts to luxurious forest; but some landscapes definitely seem out of place. And for this #monomad challenge, here's one of them.
In Faial island, a submarine eruption in 1957 created a view that we're not used to see in Açores, islands where green is everywhere.
Streams of lava and volcanic material tossed from the earth's bowels gradually created another small island, very close to Faial island. With the ongoin eruptions and time, that small island united with the existing island, efectively making the island grow around 1km more. The photo above is the Farol dos Capelinhos (Capelinho's lighthouse), that was partially destroyed during the sysmic activity.
So now, in one tip of the island, the green gives way to an arid landscape, that makes us feel we're in another planet.
All this didn't existed just a few dozens years ago. Mother nature is powerful!
It's strange to see this kind of landscape in an island with so many colour and life, but that's where the beauty of it lies. The volcanic activity is very present in Açores archipelago, but this is one of the places where it is more striking.
Wherever you come from, be it berlin, Paris or London, if you visit Faial island... take a walk to this part of the island; you won't be disappointed!
