The port of Puntarenas in Costa Rica is the main city in the province of the same name. For many years it was the favorite place for Costa Ricans to vacation. It could be reached by train, bus and by road.
By opening new routes to other provinces and beaches, the port decreases its number of tourists. Fortunately in recent years, many investments have been made to improve the image of the place and attract visitors again.
The ferry terminal that connects Puntarenas with the main beaches of the Nicoya peninsula was modernized. The lighthouse project was developed, which is ideal to observe the boats that leave the estuary and spend some time with the family. The pier became the main arrival site for cruise ships in the country's Pacific.
Commerce grew rapidly and Puntarenas recovered a bit of its former fame, many aspects still need to be improved, especially the security issue in the communities near the port, but in general visiting Puntarenas has once again been a great experience of the trip.

El puerto de Puntarenas en Costa Rica, es la principal ciudad de la provincia del mimo nombre. Durante muchos años fue el lugar favorito de los costarricenses para vacacionar. Se podía llegar en tren, autobús y por carretera.
Al abrirse nuevas rutas hacia otras provincia y playas el puerto disminuye su cantidad de turistas. Afortunadamente en los últimos años, se ha realizado muchas inversiones para mejorar la imagen del lugar y atraer nuevamente a los visitantes.
Se modernizó la terminal de feries que comunican a Puntarenas con las principales playas de la península de Nicoya. Se desarrollo el proyecto del faro, el cual es ideal para observar las embarcaciones que salen desde el estero y pasar un tiempo en familia. El muelle se convirtió en el principal sitio de llegada de cruceros en el pacífico del país.
El comercio creció rápidamente y Puntarenas recuperó un poco de su antigua fama, aún faltan por mejorar muchos aspectos, especialmente el tema de seguridad en las comunidades cercanas al puerto, pero en general visitar Puntarenas a vuelto a ser una gran experiencia del viaje.
