Hail to the Hive!
It's that time of yearon the canals and rivers where all the birds young have hatched and the parents nervously and protectively swim around with them showing them the ropes.
I'm not massively impressed with the Swan's parenting skills though as they seem to just tell the kids
"you see these lot in the boats? "
"yes dad!"
"Well all we do is swim up to them and they chuck us bread and stuff, dead easy son watch this."
So it's almost like they've been reduced to full time begging.
Although I did notice that they seemed to have eaten all the green stuff that was growing on Badger the Narrowboats hull, just below the water line so that has actually saved me a job. We could hear them pecking away at it the other day.
So I guess the majestic swan is now both a proud begger and like one of those dudes who washes your wind shield at traffic lights.
As beautiful as nature is, I do stop and wonder sometimes. That these big beautiful birds have now just resorted to full time begging because they've realised " hey this is an easy gig" and then they teach the kids to do the same. I tend not to feed them and just generally tell them to bugger off and they hiss at me. They are bloody rude really but that won't stop me from taking a few pictures of them.
Perfect for black and white because you know....
