Hail to the Hive!
We are on the move again. Making our way back to a location to have the boat look after while we visit over the Christmas holidays. Cruising our way along the canal system deep into the cold of winter. It’s really quite pleasant.
There are hardly any other boats moving about at this time of year as most are staying put in the location of their choice for the cold season. But we like to keep moving, changing our landscape, and the winter season is proving to be a real surprise.
I mean I’m not saying its all rosie as it can get exceedingly cold and my hands and toes are the biggest victims of the cold while steering the boat, but It has a fresh feel to it combined with a kind of solitude as it feels like nobody else is about.
It gives me plenty of time to photograph my surroundings as we slowly chug along ‘The Cut’ as they call the canal. Today I am admiring the many bridges that span the canal network carrying trains, cars and people from one side to the other. As it is so quiet they almost look like old relics from a lost civilization looming up out of the mist.
But it only feels that way as they most definitely are in use on a daily basis. is crossing over this one herself to allow me through the locks on Badger the Narrowboat
As we continue to explore the 2000 miles of man made canal system in the UK.
