Hail to the Hive!
In the 6 months we have been living aboard Badger the Narrowboat we have tended to try and stay away from marinas and places with a lot of boats but as we are getting our engine replaced we have little choice in the matter right now.
It’s a slightly different experience to the way we have been living on the canal as most of the boats here are here all year round and a large majority of the others stay in the general area moving very small distances.
And then there are those boaters like ourselves getting work done on their boats at the boatyard. Most of those aren’t here as long as we have been here as the jobs get finished and they move on. We had to wait for our boat engine to arrive before getting the ball rolling, which was a six week wait, but it’s all happening now. Well it’s at ,east got started and the engine is here.
We have now been in this area two months and have gotten to know not only the boaters in the area but also the people that frequently use the canals for cycling, dog walking or feeding the birds. We have become part of the community in a way as people know us and stop to talk and ask how we are getting in with the engine and everything.
There’s some great characters in this boat neighbourhood and I am sure when we pass by here, as we will, in the future there will be a lot of waving, smiles and jokes.
We feel part of this boat ‘hood!
