Udin is a familiar figure among artists in Banda Aceh. He is a middle-aged man with a humorous personality, who returned to Banda Aceh after retiring from his job as an Art Director in Indosiar television in Jakarta. And he has a good painting ability.
At the meeting I arranged for at a coffee shop in Banda Aceh, he came holding a cigar between his middle and forefinger. I asked about cigars, which were unusual for him, “A gift from a friend” he replied.
His face adorned by a thick mustache and cigar sparked my desire to capture some pictures. He let me take photos of him in various poses while smoking a cigar.
At the end of the photo session, he showcased two of his latest paintings on his tablet computer.
