JOHN 14:26
In this verse Jesus promises the disciples that after his departure the father will send the holy spirit as an advocate or helper.
The holy spirit is described as having two primary roles:
Teaching:
The holy spirit will teach believers "All things". This doesn't mean comprehensive knowledge of all subjects but rather spiritual understanding and wisdom that aligns with God's truth.
Reminding:
The holy spirit will remind believers of everything Jesut said. This indicates that the spirit will help believers recall and apply Jesus teachings in various situations, ensuring they are guided by his words and example. The promise of the holy spirit assures believers that they will not be left alone after Jesus departure, Instead, they will receive divine guidance and empower men through the spirit.
Seeking spiritual understanding:
Regularly pray for the guidance and illumination of the holy spirit in your life. Ask the spirit to help you understand scripture discern God's will and grow in spiritual wisdom.
Living by Jesus Teachings:
Make a habit of studying the teachings of Jesus recorded in the gospels. As you read, ask the holy spirit to remind you of these teachings throughout your day. This can happen during prayer, reflection, or even in moments of decision-making.
Decision-making and Guidance:
When faced with choices or challenges, consult scripture and pray for the holy spirit guidance. Trust that the spirit will bring to mind relevant teachings of Jesus to help you make decisions that honor God and reflect his love.
Consistent Spiritual Growth:
Cultivate a lifestyle of learning and growth in faith. Attend church services, join Bible studies or engage in discussions with fellow believers where you can collectively seek the spirits guidance in understanding and applying scripture.
Sharing Jesus Teachings:
As you grow in your understanding and application of Jesus teachings through the holy spirit guidance. Be an ambassador of Christ, spreading his teachings and love those around you.
