Feelings.
We have them! Sometimes we share them a little bit too much, I know from experience lol
No one can tell you how to feel. That's up to you to decide. Things get thrown at you all the time in this life things and I think that's part of the human experience...Learning how to deal with your feelings and protecting your heart throughout your life. Have you ever had a broken heart? Oh wow, it sucks....
Anyways without getting too 'feely' in this post, I think I personally can learn alot from what Proverbs 4:23 states...
Oh wow, I'm not joking when I say that the book of Proverbs, is the greatest personal development book in history.
The "Proverbs Men & Women" graphic reads it that we should 'guard our hearts', but let's take a deep dive into this verse and maybe check out another translation...
I do like the New Living Translation for this verse as it really brings the point him. It reads "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." Think about this for a minute.....
What usually comes from out of the heart? I'd say a feeling like passion....And yeah there are many more, but let's run with this for an example. Passion can be a great thing, but it can also get you into trouble. You are passionate about an opinion, maybe dare I say, a church doctrine you hold near and dear to your...Heart!
Someone challenges you, maybe debates you about what you believe and your passion begins to ignite....
You start getting frustrated that they don't see your point of view. Anger starts to appear in the way you are talking (down) to them. You have opened your heart and it's gotten you into trouble.
Because look at the second part of that verse.....'For it determines the course of your life'.
This isn't saying that putting your heart and soul into something isn't a good thing. If it's of good report (Phil. 4:8) we are taught to focus and think on these things. But there are times when our heart can lead us down a path that God never intends....
Speaking 1000000000000% from personal experience here too, especially with that example above.
The heart is deceitful. We know this from Scripture. So we are told to guard it!
It's truly remarkable the lessons and nuggets this book has within it's pages, and I'm not even talking about the whole bible. I'm just referring to this almost 3000 year old book lol
I hope you guys are enjoying the #kingdomproverbs series. The next few verses that are coming, truly can change your life :)
