Rest assured...I'm still on track when it comes to my daily dive into 1 and 2 Corinthians!
Even though this blog post is tackling the 5th chapter, I'm actually up to chapter 12. So I'm pretty pleased with my pace and it's been quit rewarding. I know I have mentioned this before, but I highly recommend doing a SLOW study or. chapter a day and then writing down your thoughts about the chapter you have read.
This has been the strategy I've been using for this and it's been awesome on so many levels!
Anyways, let's look at my super bad grammar in my hand written note below lol
I think I should have written down "The church can be filled with worse sinners than the world". That would have captured my thoughts on chapter 5 much better because if you haven't ever looked into this part of Paul's letter to Corinth, get ready for some uncomfortable moments.
The first verse sets the tone for Paul's rebuke of the church and sadly, this seems all too common in today's world.
It's very easy to point the finger at others, but here we see the finger being pointed directly back at us, the church. And the sins that sometimes go unnoticed by the world, but God always sees it.
You see this theme throughout the new testament, where we are called to come out from the world. We are to be a unique and peculiar people, meanwhile we still shake hands with the world and cling to her evils.
What does Paul say in the last part of this chapter?
This isn't pretty. This is strong rebuke. And saying if someone isn't repenting, that we should separate from them. As a verse above this reads..."Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?"
One of the more difficult chapters in 1 Corinthians, but a strong message of repentance for us all.
