Do you know why I think these #kingdomproverbs posts have been so rewarding for me personally?
Because I'm seeing the sin I used to almost celebrate in my life....
And as new creatures in Christ, we are told to turn from them, repent and live a life rich in Christ.
Today's verse, is a prime example of this....
The graphic reads that the Proverbs Man and Woman do not mock others. And we find that in Proverbs 17:5.
Story time...
I used to have quite the successful online businesses. For years I worked from the comfort of my own home, and made a boat load of money. Lots of my customers would ask me questions about how to run a profitable online business and I would gladly share my 'secrets'...
But every now and again, someone would disagree with how I did things and challenge me in a public online forum.
This is when my sin became very evident!
I used to 'mock' them and parade around like I was Mr. High & Mighty, and had all the answers to everything. And back then, I believed my own hype. It was pride in every sense of the word. Which pretty much, ruined my reputation with some of my customers...For life.
And while I was making fun of the fact they had no success and I had it all, I was in fact....Breaking the rules of this Proverb found in chapter 17 and verse 5.
I wasn't just shaming myself, I was shaming my Lord and Savior. My ego and pride believed that I was responsible for my own success. Nevermind that God put blessing after blessing in front of my eyes, but here I was....Mocking my own customers that disagreed with me.
Such a tough pill to swallow. And yes, I did do my best over the years to repent and apologize to those I offended...But the damage was done.
This is such a lesson to me personally that pride is in fact, one of the greatest sins we can hold on to. Look what it did to Lucifer!
I'm so thankful for the book of Proverbs.
Reading and re-reading these gems helps us see our sin but more importantly, repent and then turn from it!
