Decided to switch things up for this post....And we are back posting directly on front end. I do really enjoy this editor. It's super clean and if you know anything about Jongo, you'll know he's a big fan of clean design and function.
So yeah, this isn't a blog post about the user experience here on chain, but rather it's another #biblejournal post and today we're diving into 1 Corinthians chapter 8.
And what's hilarious to me, is the verse I picked out as the one I want to commit to memory. Before I share my thoughts on the chapter, let's see what verse 2 says...
That should tell you everything about my 'expertise' in anything going forward :)
Look at what Paul is saying right at the beginning of this chapter...We don't always know, what we think we do. AKA, get ready to be humbled. Which might make sense at first when you read my thoughts behind the chapter...
I read chapter 8 and immediately, I started seeing that this was to do with meat and idol worship. Or meat sacrificed to idols. And when that happens, my Adventist brain starts thinking.....Leviticus 11!!!!!!
Now let me state, I think we should practice an Eden diet which is vegetarian and here's why without going into too much detail. Our first diet in Eden was fruits and nuts. And if heaven is Eden restored and there is no death in heaven....We won't be killing animals for food. So in my understanding, I want to prepare for my heavenly home.
O.K., the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak lol Because yes, I still eat meat. Beef, clean fish and chicken frequent my plate, but generally I'm more of a vegetarian than not. Because the bible doesn't say...Stuff your face with pork. There's a reason that meat was deemed unclean by God in Leviticus, and if God says it...That's good enough for me.
Plus I was never a big fan of pork anyways (I'm the first guy you will meet that never liked bacon lol)
But that's really not the point of this post. The point was, I quickly wrote down my 'thoughts' for 1 Corinthians 8 and threw it right into my proof texts for a vegetarian Eden diet.
But this isn't what Paul is even remotely referencing...
Remember verse 2? LOL Yeah, I'm eating humble pie right now..
This is all about food being sacrificed to idols and being sensitive to the conscience of your brother or sister. Not putting stumbling blocks in front of them, which in Paul's time...Was the meat offered to idols.
I'll be completely honest, even though I've studied chapter 8 a lot over the past few days, it's still going to need some prayer. It's a short chapter too, but sometimes the shortest chapters pack the most punch.
So humbly I'm saying....My knowledge is still VERY limited when it comes to God. And I will go to Him in prayer to discern this chapter before I re-write my big takeaway from it.
But verse 2 still holds very true for me as the highlight LOL
