"But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift... And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ... that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine... but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ." (Ephesians 4:7-16)
The Apostle Paul was a mighty man of God who turned entire regions upside down for Christ within months. He planted churches, raised spiritual sons and daughters (1 Corinthians 4:15; Galatians 4:19), and operated in extraordinary spiritual authority. He prayed in tongues more than most (1 Corinthians 14:18), experienced divine revelations (2 Corinthians 12:2-4), and demonstrated God’s power with boldness (1 Corinthians 4:19-20). He could confidently say, "Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1) and declare that he labored more than other apostles by God’s grace (1 Corinthians 15:10).
Yet, despite his spiritual stature, Paul constantly pleaded for prayers from the churches. His letters reveal this urgent request:
"Strive together with me in prayers to God for me" (Romans 15:30).
"You also helping together in prayer for us" (2 Corinthians 1:11).
"Praying always... for me, that utterance may be given to me" (Ephesians 6:19).
"Continue earnestly in prayer... that God would open to us a door for the word" (Colossians 4:2-3).
Paul’s victorious finish—
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7)—was not just due to his anointing but also the sustaining prayers of the saints. If a spiritual giant like Paul needed intercession, how much more do our pastors, prophets, and leaders today?
Hence, take time today to fervently pray for your spiritual leaders—for protection, wisdom, strength, and unquenchable fire for God.
