Last weekend, I and some students went for an outreach program organized by the Baptist Students Association of my area. The title of the outreach was "Great Power," which was inspired from Ephesians 3:20:
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.
Anytime I hear about outreach, I am always happy because it's time to preach the gospel of Christ to the villagers, as Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus instructs, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. So, it's always a great privilege.
We all gathered at the church, and then we boarded the church bus to the village. The journey started, and we prayed. The village is not too far from my town, so we arrived early. We got to the small church where we were meant to stay, and everyone got out of the bus,we took our bags. We rested, and by 5 pm, we prayed and set out for awareness. We went from house to house to inform them we had a program at night.
The villagers were so lovely that they came out in masses to the program, which ended by 12 am. All the villagers returned to their houses. The next day, we had a morning cryer preaching the gospel all over the village, and we had our meal by 12 pm. By 3 pm, we started Bible study, which was coordinated by me. The topic was Great Power.
I started by telling them the meaning of great power. Great power is the ability to do all things, and the only person who has the ability to do all things is God. The only power that can raise the dead, power that has no end, and power that can't die. I gave some biblical examples, such as Moses parting the Red Sea with God's great power, Elijah raising the widow's son, and many more by the power of God.
Then Jesus, whom God sent to save us all, manifested the power of God by healing the sick, opening blinded eyes, and raising the dead. While Jesus was on earth, He already gave us this power as believers, as seen in Luke 9:1-2.
When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
This made the disciples do wonders through the power of God when the power came upon them, as seen in
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
As believers, we too can manifest God's power by doing everything Jesus did. I told them we also need this power to win souls, heal the sick, so that God's name will be glorified through us, and also for strength, etc. But we can only manifest this power only if we give our lives to Christ, have faith, and continuous prayer.
After the teaching, they also added to it, and the people asked questions. By the time we finished Bible study, it was already evening. We set out for house-to-house evangelism while some stayed to continue prayer. To the glory of God, souls were won, and I know there will be joy in heaven over sinners who repent.
Our mission here on earth is to let Christ be known, and we are not stopping until all the world comes to the knowledge of Christ. We left on Sunday after having Sunday service with them. They were so happy to see us; in fact, they were the ones who cooked for us, and we enjoyed the meal. I know that that village is for Jesus.
